Kaiser Permanente Supervisor Laboratory Administration in Renton, Washington

Job Summary:

Implement policies and procedures and manage the daily operations of a Laboratory Administration functions to include customer service and general administrative functions for both clinical, genetics, and Anatomic Pathology. Ensure staff provides high quality, accessible, cost effective and patient-focused services to patients. Ensure regulatory compliance. Maintain practice standards, budgets and staff development. May work with Laboratory quality assurance staff member to provide and coordinate support for their site and Laboratory Systems in general. Monitor and coordinate the administrative functions of a department to ensure efficient office operations. Act as a liaison to other departments, such as Information Systems and Facilities, and coordinate work. May supervise administrative staff within the department and participate in team building and career development. Oversee department budgets. Analyze processes and recommend changes, with supporting data.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides and/or ensures the provision of accurate and timely administrative support for the department. May be

involved in any of the following; supervises, leads, mentors, trains, schedules, hires/fires, team building and career

development of other administrative staff within department.

  • Oversees the office operations by coordinating with Facilities on processes such as service requests for moves, remodels, furniture, and safety; and with ISD on telephone or network changes, new user access. May serve as ISD

point person responsible for installing and providing training for new software, fielding hardware and software problems, coordinating with LAN administrator on server issues, and updates and training staff on any changes.

  • Implements & maintains service standards to meet patient & customer expectations. Develops & maintains an effective collaborative working relationship with facility staff. Identifies and resolves problems/issues. Designs and evaluates processes to improve systems and quality of laboratory services across the continuum of care, under the direction of the manager. Coordinates and/or gathers and analyzes data to determine efficient and cost effective practices for department. Make recommendations regarding improvement for office operations. Performs research and data analysis projects. May assist in developing policies and procedures. May provide ad hoc project management to department leaders.

  • Supervises departmental human resources. Utilizes processes to screen, interview, hire, train and maintain the competency of staff with input from their manager. Ensures on-going development. Coaches, evaluates and gives feedback on performance.

  • Monitors budgets and resource allocations. Monitors financial performance and identifies & implements strategies to reduce costs, control utilization and improve quality of care/service. Oversees and develops staffing, payroll, fiscal management and quality improvement activities along with manager.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of administrative or related experience.

    Education

  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.

    License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

  • Ability to work independently across multiple departments on diverse assignments, using discretion, professionalism and integrity.

  • Must be organized and detail oriented, with problem solving skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable about payroll, timecards, and laboratory budget planning.

  • One (1) year of supervision or "lead" experience.

  • Administrative experience within KP.

  • Associates degree.
