Job Summary:
This position exists to support KPNW Regional Imaging Services by developing and implementing quality review processes, and procedures that insure quality standards are consistent with federal and state regulations, accreditation requirements, certification standards, optimal quality systems and outcomes as well as the KP Principles of Responsibility. The Quality Assurance Technologist performs quality audits and reviews and monitors imaging processes to ensure regional consistency to quality performance standards.The Quality Assurance Technologist advises, recommends strategies, and assists with implementation for assuring compliance to Imaging directors, managers, team leaders and staff with established processes, policies and written procedures. Auditing and monitoring of Imaging processes assures compliance to regulatory and organizational requirements and standards.The Quality Assurance Technologist (under the direction of the Imaging Services Site Manager and in coordination with the Regional Imaging Quality & Compliance Manager) will organize, coordinate, and implement the Radiography Quality Assurance Program, including auditing, analysis and preparing reports related to Quality Assurance activities. The objective is to ensure consistency and excellent quality radiographs. Educate technologists in performing to established standards. The Quality Assurance Technologist may be delegated responsibility for representing Regional Imaging Services on Kaiser Permanente regional committees.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide patient care in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of staff Radiologic Technologists.
Collect data, analyze results, document and report findings on Quality Assurance activities. Determine if changes are necessary; recommend appropriate adjustment to equipment and/or technical performance to appropriate personnel. Provide guidance to Imaging Services management on the development of and changes to policies, procedures and practices in accordance with regulations set forth by the State of Oregon, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and A.L.A.R.A. Assure that Imaging practices and procedures comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
Be an integral part of the development, coordination, and standardization of region-wide Imaging practices and drafting written procedures in alignment with regulations, accreditation standards, Kaiser Permanente organizational policies and Imaging Services quality system requirements. Develop and distribute trainings, in the form of newsletters, WebEx programs and site visits for staff based on the evaluation and results of Quality Assurance data, changes in equipment, and technical, manual or other factors. Meet with newly hired staff as part of orientation to uphold quality imaging standards. Provide mentoring/coaching assistance to staff as needed as it pertains to quality imaging. Provide consultation to staff, supervisors, coordinators, specialists, managers and directors on Quality Assurance issues.
Performs tasks related to digital imaging Quality Assurance efforts. Assist with training and work with staff to ensure radiographic exams are performed correctly. Will have direct input regarding the effectiveness of the radiology quality assurance initiatives. Recommend modifications to program or criteria. Assist with the Implementation of appropriate changes as directed. In conjunction with the Regional Imaging Quality & Compliance Manager plan, conduct, and oversee the internal quality auditing process.
Monitor the Imaging system for process and system breakdowns. Update exposure charts for consistent reproduction of exams within design standards. Implement approved modifications to technique and positioning manuals. Recommend x-ray generating equipment, processing equipment, CR, DR and other equipment in order to meet the objective of the Quality Assurance Program. Maintains thorough working knowledge of safety regulations and standards. Identify risks and hazards associated with work performed. Maintain contemporary knowledge of radiographic technology and QA methods particularly as they pertain to CR and DR. Communicate professionally with Radiologists, technologists, medical staff, visitors, patients and other personnel interdepartmentally. Interacts with all technical staff at least monthly for educational purposes. Assist in the annual review and update of the General Radiology Procedure Manual. Perform other duties as required.
Assist in information dissemination when changes in Imaging services are requested by clinicians, nursing and/or service area managers. Assist with the planning process and determination of equipment needs to implement changes. Under the direction of the Imaging Services Site Manager, and in coordination with the General Radiology Imaging Consultant, assist technologists with smooth transition to said changes. Design, conduct and distribute trainings and materials in quality and digital imaging topics. Participate as a resource for quality improvement project teams in formulating process improvements for the benefit of Imaging Services customers and the improvement of patient care.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum three (3) years of experience in general and/or specialty radiology.
Education
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License (Oregon) OR Registered Radiologic Technologist (Washington)
Radiologic Technologist Certification
Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
Previous experience in digital imaging environment.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of radiographic techniques, procedures and technology.
Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology and osteology.
Contemporary skills to complete and perform the duties of a Radiologic technologist.
Working knowledge of state and federal laws regulatory requirements (JCAHO, OSHA, etc.) and professional standards of practice.
Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and inspire excellence in staff performance and professionalism.
Ability to anticipate an appropriated plan for department needs and/or potential problems related to maintaining QA program.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to obtain/upgrade requisite technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum two (2) years of Hospital and/or clinical experience in the area of Quality Management, having permanent responsibilities for Quality Assurance programs throughout the department.
Minimum four (4) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
Previous experience with Kaiser Permanente or other HMO.
Previous experience in Imaging regulatory/accreditation field.
Previous project management experience.
Previous procedure/work instruction writing experience.
Previous auditing and/or quality improvement experience.
Thorough working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
Strong knowledge of digital and computed radiography systems.
Strong knowledge of PACS (Picture Archival and Retrieval Systems).
Strong interpersonal skills.
